Our “why”

Selling insurance is hard. With AI, it won’t have to be.

Having worked in the industry for nearly a decade, I often wondered what would finally be the driving force for seismic change. When I first encountered LLMs back in late 2022, the picture became clear that the world of insurance sales had indeed met its catalyst. While we are nowhere close to meaningful adoption of AI in insurance, there is no doubt that is where we’re headed.

AI is the next technology revolution. Like electricity, computers, and the internet before it, AI’s impact will be iterative–compounding its effect over long time horizons. Today, the first AI tools that touch sales have been horizontal. You’ve likely come across AI meeting schedulers or outreach automaters. As I see it, the next major wave will be vertically focused… where highly refined software will operate in concert with workers allowing them to complete their work faster, better, and more creatively. We’re already starting to see these vertical companies marry the content creation, natural language processing, and reasoning superpowers of LLMs with domain-specific, useful workflows and industry understanding.

This is why I’m excited to announce the launch of Pathwork. Pathwork isn't just another AI tool; it's the first vertically-integrated AI sales platform designed specifically to tackle the unique challenges of insurance sales. Distribution is the most critical part of the insurance value chain and Pathwork is in it to solve the complexities and inefficiencies that have persisted far too long.

Where we’re starting

We are starting in life insurance with the goal to support all other personal lines.

To start, Pathwork will focus on the insurance category where the products are (famously) “sold, not bought”—life insurance. Life insurance is a $150B market in the U.S. and one where the distribution challenges are most prominent due to product complexity and the importance of the agent. 

Selling life insurance requires an understanding of 1,000s of products, dozens of carriers, and an ever-growing set of guidelines on underwriting. For decades, agents have struggled to answer “what is the best product for my client?”, and feel confident enough to explain and sell the value. After an agent makes the sale, submitting the application is just the start to the battle. Underwriting, case management, and retention are all left to the agent to solve. Agencies and BGAs are not converting the demand they see daily due to preventable mistakes and the sheer time it takes to sell, quote, and place a client.

We're not just out to improve how insurance is sold; we're redefining the entire experience for agents and clients alike.

There is a wide range of personal insurance products beyond life insurance—annuities, long-term care, disability, medicare, health, auto, and home—each with similar distribution challenges.

Our products

We have two products available (today) on our platform:

AI Underwriting: To underwrite a complex case, hundreds of pages of documents must be reviewed. We’ve trained AI models to “understand” all this information so an agent or in-house underwriter can find the best solution for their client in minutes rather than days.

AI Commissions: Lastly, we’re helping our agency customers build a unified view of their book of business and commissions. Our AI is normalizing dozens of carrier’s statements into a simple, single view.

Our impact

We are making things simple.

Today, Pathwork is best positioned to eliminate many of a life insurance agent’s manual tasks and accelerate their complex processes. Our northstart is simplicity. Agents can now spend more of their time on their client relationships and bring more empathy to each interaction. We work in the background enabling this. Pathwork plugs into existing technology so agencies don’t need to overhaul systems in order to take advantage of our capabilities.

We wouldn’t be where we are today without our customers: LifeQuotes.com, Summit Life Group, and Edison Risk. Pathwork will be an important tool for each to improve their conversion rates, placement rates, and sales capacity. Pathwork will ultimately make each of our customers more effective and efficient so they can service more clients.
